VENUE DETAILS.The workshop will take place at 548 metres in a sanctuary at the top of a mountain which protects the pretty little village of "Randa" with its cobblestone streets and beautiful gardens. From the venue location you have panoramic views if the whole island. The sea can be seen all around except for the North, which is dominated by mountains. It is one of the best places on the island to view the often spectacular sunsets. It is also cultural-historical holy ground. From the 13th to 15th centuries the many caves in the mountain side were inhabited by hermits. At this times the hermit way of life was considered the ideal path to gain religiuos enlightenment. It was here that the visionary Ramon Llull retreated in 1263 after having visions and renouncing his life of excesses at the Mallorcan court. In one of the caves (the remains of which can be visited) he had his famous "illumination" where he had a vision of Jesus and wrote his famous works. Eventually he constructed and lived in the mountain top buildings where this venue takes place. These buildings went on to became a Llullian College and in 1510 a Grammar school. Franciscan monks have been in possession of the buildings on top of the mountain since the late 19th Century. Ramon Llull was born in a period where Muslims, Jews and Christians co-existed peacefully. This greatly influenced his doctrines. He was a traveller, writer and speaker and presented to Popes, Kings, Bishops, peoples of all religions and cultures about the truth, the love, the beauty and the transcendence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He knew no bounds for transmitting his knowledge of God to mankind. The spirit of prayer and contemplation and also the enthusiasm for his doctrine hangs in the air of Randa Cura. The people of Mallorca even today still associate the Mountain with Ramon Llul. The sanctuary has a museum dedicated to his life. There is also has a small chapel, where the statue of the Virgin Mary is renowned for curing ills, hence the full name 'Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura' (The sanctuary of our lady of cures). A single old wild rose tree in the courtyard is said to have been flowering continually for 200 years due to the Virgin's restorative power! FOR FURTHER DETAILS AND PHOTOS PLEASE VISIT THEIR WEBSITE.
